In class learning-4/29

Today we had a guest speaker come in to class and discuss his business of search engine optimization. His company was called SEO by the SEA. The main point of the business is to get more people to a specific site and educate them about a specific topic. The business is geared towards increasing the amount of traffic towards a web page. The main reason why certain web pages don't rank well is usually due to the page titles within the html code. By making technical changes towards the site and changing the site's structure can drastically increase the amount of traffic. However, a question was brought up in class about the ethical means towards this business. People may have the money to hire someone to tweak their webpage in order to gain a higher page rank. This may degrade the search quality by bumping down other web pages with more relevant information. You may visit the webpage of SEO by the SEA at SEO by the SEA

Third Wikipedia Edit-Anabolic Steroids

I just made my third Wikipedia edit in reference to anabolic steroids. Although there is a lot of information on this page I added some more information about the early 1990's. This is when the government began to enact more stringent controls and higher criminal penalties with the illegal distribution of anabolic steroids. Through my research on this topic, I’ve realized that there is a lot of different views and biased opinions. You can visit this topic at Anabolic Steroids

In Class Learning-4/13

Today, Dan Baxter from DealCatcher.com came into class and spoke about an online shopping site he started during the .com era. He originally started the site as a hobby, but the site has grown considerably over the past several years. The site promotes deals and advertises sales of different products. By doing this he keeps his costs low. The reason why this site has become so successful is because of the first mover advantage, which means they were the first to enter this market. Last year he generated over 37 million dollars in sales and has a 45% growth rate over the past year. A major catalyst that has driven this site to success is publicity and word of mouth. As you know, any publicity is great for traffic growth. You may visit this webpage at Dealcatcher

Required Blog-Thailand Bans YouTube

After reading through the "Slashdot-New for news" blog, the article concerning Thailand's banning of YouTube caught my attention. The website was banned due to a 44 second clip of the defacing of the kings portrait. I feel that countries like this are wasting their time with the petty domestic issues like this. It also reminds me that freedom of speech plays a vital role for our freedom as US citizens. The introduction of YouTube has drastically altered the Marketing society and has given people a broader view of what businesses have to offer. Countries like Thailand will always be restricted towards having access to websites like these. You can read more about this topic at YouTube banned
