In class discussion-3/5/07

On Monday March 5th, we listened to a presentation by Tobey about Marketing & Social media, and blogs as a marketing structure. We learned that consumer generated media has become one of the largest and most influential forms of media. A major question was if social media would eventually clash with marketing? As a consumer, I am eager to spread the word if I like a specific product or vice versa. Word of the mouth plays a tremendous role of whether a specific brand survives. In this day in age, marketers no longer control the perception of a product. Companies can manage their products, but they cannot control the message. Today, major companies are blogging. From non-profit organizations, to fortune 500 companies. These companies understand how to leverage themselves to succeed in the future.
